craft project...complete

remember the craft project materials i showed you a few weeks ago? well, if you guessed i was making swatch portraits, you were right! this project is so easy and the best part is it only took me an hour to complete.

here are the portraits laid out on my table.
aren't they pretty?

i hung them in my mudroom

materials needed:

1. fabric swatches (i used these beautiful liberty of london tana lawn fabrics)
2. wooden embroidery hoops, various sizes (i found mine at joann fabrics)
3. glue
4. 3M command hooks for hanging

original tutorial found here

these would look great in any room, especially a nursery. hope you try them out.

coffee and doughnuts

i love all the recipes i find on this sweet little blog called "always with butter." besides the delicious desserts julie creates, she takes gorgeous photos of the whole process and makes my mouth water. these coffee and doughnut cupcakes are one of my favorites. i haven't tried them out yet but they're on my list...

recipe here

aren't they the cutest things? let me know if you try them out...

our little library

i don't always write about cookies (if you haven't noticed). i hope that's okay with you. when i started this blog i knew i didn't want it to be just about cookies but also things that inspire me, personal experiences, lifestyle, crafts and cute things i find while i'm surfing the internet. those are the kinds of blogs that draw me in and keep be coming back for more. if you want to see more cookies, then just let me know. if you like what you are reading, let me know that too. i'd like to know you stopped by for a visit.

we have the cutest little library on the cutest little main street in the cutest little town. the library started off as a one room school house in the 1800's then turned into an elementary school and now it's our library. i attended first and second grade there and walked up and down main street every day to and from school all by myself. would you let your kids do that today?

they have a wonderful summer reading program with great crafts, stories and activities for the kids. for the past few years i have been doing a japanese fish printing (gyotaku) craft. traditional japanese fish printing uses real fish but we used rubber replicas (found here) and printed them on tees. the kids had a great time.

and i'll throw in a fish cookie i did a while ago since this is a cookie blog....

are you doing anything creative this week?

sugarlily on the road

what happened to all the cute ice cream trucks that drove around our neighborhoods when we were little playing that irresistible song luring all the kiddos like the pied piper? do you remember how excited you were when you heard that sound? i would love to have a "cookie" truck someday and have been inspired by these lovely vehicles i've spotted recently...

how adorable is this flower truck? i could easily transport some cute cookies in here

i'm loving this cart too and again, cookies would work...

image via: you are my fave

and i think my favorite is this renovated shasta camper that sells snow cones!
how cute!!! look at that little guy!

would you buy cookies from a truck?

happy campers

every year we host a camp out in our back yard with my husband's family. my husband is one of six children and there are eleven grandchildren ranging in age from eighteen down to six. the tents are reserved for just the kids with two willing adult chaperones while the rest of us are safe and sound in our cozy beds (there was a bear sighting at last year's camp out). there is nothing like "cousin time" and this annual event was nicknamed "the great cousin camp out" by aunt j.

this year i'm going a little over the top and planning some extra special things because two of the cousins are high school graduates and moving on to new things. i love to plan parties and i love invitations as much as i love baking. i found this cute postcard invitation on
etsy by lazaflair who tweaked it to fit our event. how cute is it?

now it's time to think about cookies to go along with this camp out. more details to come as the planning continues.
